Turkey and Tunisia have emerged as the top growth destinations being considered by cost-conscious British holidaymakers looking outside the eurozone this summer, according to new data. But Ibiza and Dubai are losing their appeal despite the emirate remaining the top long-haul destination.

British Airways announces new World Traveller Plus amenities

British Airways is changing some of the amenities it offers to World Traveller Plus passengers. From July 1, 2019 the premium economy service will have new amenity kits made from recycled plastic bottles. The kits will contain an eyemask, socks, a pen, toothbrush, toothpaste and lip balm from Scaramouche and Fandango. A new quilt and cushion will feature the herringbone design also found in First cabins and on the new amenity kits. Gate to gate wi-fi introduced by Norwegian

Budget carrier Norwegian is introducing ‘gate to gate’ wi-fi for passengers. Internet access will be available for the entire duration of each flight across the airline’s wi-fi enabled aircraft from pushback to arrival at the airport gate. Previously, aircraft had to climb to an altitude of 10,000 feet before the wi-fi network was activated. Norwegian was the first low cost carrier to begin introducing free wi-fi on long-haul routes on its Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners. Half of the Dreamliner fleet is expected to be equipped by 2020.

IAG (British Airways and Iberia) signs deal to buy 200 Boeing 737 Max aircraft

International Airlines Group (IAG) has signed a letter of intent with Boeing for 200 737 Max aircraft to join its fleet. The mix of 737-8 and 737-10 aircraft is expected to be delivered between 2023 and 2027 and are likely to be used by IAG airlines including Vueling, LEVEL and British Airways flying from Gatwick.

Heathrow: Boris Johnson ‘backtracking on third runway opposition’

Tory party leader frontrunner Boris Johnson appears to have backtracked on his long-held opposition to a Heathrow third runway. The former London mayor refused to reassure campaigners against the runway earlier this week that he would cancel the scheme. Johnson vowed to his constituents four years ago that he would “lie down with you in front of those bulldozers and stop the building, stop the construction of that third runway”. However, at a hustings organised by the Conservative Party’s 1922 Committee of backbenchers on Wednesday, he was equivocal, The Times reported.

Starbucks launches reusable cup scheme at Gatwick

Starbucks has launched the first airport reusable cup trial in partnership with Gatwick and environmental NGO Hubbub. The trial will run for one month in the airport’s South Terminal. Starbucks customers will be able to borrow a free reusable cup for their hot drink instead of a disposable paper cup in an attempt to reduce waste.
We are using the new service to Corfu in addition to the regular flights to all of the Canary Islands, mainland Spain and Portugal. Liverpool Airport has proved that it is a popular and convenient alternative to Manchester

Pound gains a third in value against Turkish lira

Sterling has achieved its biggest year-on-year gain of 34.3% against the Turkish lira, latest analysis reveals. This gives holidaymakers £128 extra on a £500 currency purchase, according to Port Office Travel Money.
