This magnificent colonial mansion was originally built for Sir Thomas Maitland and subsequently served as the residence for successive British Governors before being converted into a hotel. It is since hosted many famous head of state, writers and film stars. The hotel is well located on a headland overlooking the Indian Ocean and sandy beaches to the north looking towards Colombo and to the south. Plenty of character, “tea on the terrace at four”, “G &T’s at sundown.
