Resort: Algarve
Algarve
There are hundreds of sandy attractive beaches washed by the ocean in Algarve and due to the water currents the sea temperature can be often be surprisingly warm even in some of the winter months. The interior from the coast greatly varies in its picturesque appeal due to its variety of fauna, soil and contours.
Alvor:
A popular holiday location, this ancient coastal village is located facing a natural lagoon opening onto the sea giving the visitors a choice of a long open sandy beach or a number of small coves tucked under the cliffs. Alvor boasts bars with live music and different types of restaurants. The 16th Century Parish Church is the only building that has survived from the earthquake of 1755.
Porches:
The picture-postcard village of Porches is distinctive for its cluster of classic white regional-style houses punctuated with striking filigreed chimneys. Life revolves around the Porches Pottery Factory which was founded to revive a local craft and preserve ancient Iberian and Moorish patterns. The town’s parish church has replaced an older 16th century church from which the chancel still remains.
Vilamoura:
Vilamoura is the name given to an area featuring one of the largest single tourist complexes in Europe. The land is partially covered in pine forests whilst the rest is open recovered marshland. On the southern border is a long sandy beach. This resort offers the visitor nearly every form of sport and entertainment including golf courses, a large marina, a tennis centre, a sports club, a shooting club, night clubs, a casino, a cinema and a riding school.
