Cooler air was the attraction that brought the citizens of Funchal up to Monte a century ago. The Quinta do Monte, now a member of 'Charming Hotels of Madeira', is a beautifully restored manor house and a haven of relaxation and tranquility surrounded by extensive mature gardens. A slope behind the Quinta is covered with Laurissilva forest classified 'World Heritage' by UNESCO.

This unique hotel is set in the heart of picturesque village of monte just a few minutes' walk from the cable car terminal and the departure point of the famous downhill wickerwork toboggans. Access to Funchal city centre is also possible by local buses and taxis from the village square or by the cable-car itself (at a most beneficial rate!).

The hotel has a welcoming and intimate atmosphere with the bedrooms in a connecting modern building. The restaurant serves Portuguese cuisine and the adjoining winter garden is a lovely setting for breakfast or afternoon tea.
