The
villages and tourist resorts, mostly low
rise, harmoniously blend together, their
buildings sport the same colours - green
and white with natural woodwork.
The holiday resorts are on the east coast with mile after mile of sandy beaches
with swimming in clean seas.
PUERTO
DEL CARMEN is the thriving original resort
on the island with a large selection of
bars, restaurants, etc., and the best nightlife
on the island.
COSTA
TEGUISE, a purpose built resort along the
coastline to the north of the capital Arrecife.
There are good sandy beaches, plenty of
opportunities
for
windsurfing and a fine 18 hole golf course. A selection of shops and good
restaurants in
this resort cater for guests at the fine four and five star hotels.
PLAYA
BLANCA was originally a small fishing village
and a port for the ferry connection to
Fuerteventura. It has now expanded into
a popular resort
but
still retains its old charm and a peaceful atmosphere. There are several
good sandy
beaches at this southern part of the island.
PUERTO
CALERO is a few kilometres west of Puerto
del Carmen and is a complete contrast,
being a tranquil yacht harbour with a few
cafes and
restaurants,
the atmosphere is very ‘chic’.
Lanzarote
still retains a great deal of charm and
has not become over developed.
