Tenerife is well known and the most popular Canary Island. Although overdeveloped in the past, the locals have learned by their mistakes and the newest developments are all top quality, especially in the new Costa Adeje coastal area. A coastal walkaway runs along the seafront passing all the resort and beach areas. It runs from the port of Los Cristianos in the east through Playa de las Americas, past the beaches of Playa Fanabe and Playa del Duque along the Costa Adeje and finishes at the fishing village of La Caleta. The pathway gives easy access to restaurants, bars and the beaches.
Costa Adeje: As described above this is the latest area for development on the south coast of Tenerife. From the ouset the area was designated for Four and Five star hotels only, all are now complete. They all have a sea front location and provide a quieter less commercialised environment to the more brash Playa de Las Americas. We Recommend Hotel Sheraton La Caleta
Guia de Isora: A quiet area further west along the south coast, mainly agricultural growing tomatoes and bananas. We Recommend Hotel Abama.
Los Cristianos: 30 years ago this was the only town of any significance on Tenerife's south coast as it is the only port at this end of the island, where the regular ferry crossings to the islands of La Gomera and La Palma set off from. Today Los Cristianos still has the hustle and bustle of a port with a lively pedestrianised centre with shops and cafes. We Recommend the Hotel Arona Gran.
Playa de Las Americas: Having lost the long held stigma of a haven for 'lager louts' Playa de las Americas has cleaned up its act and although some of the back streets are a bit tatty the sea front area, promenade and sea facing hotels are looking good. We Recommend the Hotel Villa Cortes
